Johann Roy is an Indian researcher-designer whose practice explores ideas within fields of self-agency, traditional futurism, thermal regulation, manufacturing and the efficient reuse of discarded resources]. His work aims to understand how material properties can further be understood or relearnt  to solve issues prevalent within the fields he explores.

Johann prioritises hands-on making and iterative experimentation, embracing a trial and error approach as his method of execution. His approach develops frameworks that examine and push the interrelationships between human ←→ material/structure ←→ environment. The outcomes derived from this emphasise human interaction with the material/structure.

While his research is informed by the material practices of ancient heritage cultures from across the world, Johann feels that this must be in collaboration with appropriate technologies to push the boundaries of what is thought to be possible. Believing that this approach has the potential to aid in various modern day challenges.
